Airsoft#
Airsoft is a dynamic outdoor or indoor sport that simulates certain military or police preocedures, with the help of replicas. Its beginning dates back to the 1980s in Japan, from where it quickly spread throughout the world. The first official airsoft club in Slovenia was established in 1998.
Airsoft is characterized by a high degree of realism, as replicas faithfully imitate real firearms, from which they differ in weight and appearance. This means they must be handled very carefully, to not cause public danger and alarm. For this reason, airsoft is played on special fields, which are also appropriately marked, and the players are eager to explain everything about the sport to anyone who approaches such fields. The replicas are harmless and the projectile power is low, they are classified as toys under current Slovenian law.
Airsoft comes in many forms and genres. These differ from each other in terms of purpose and goals. Some of the most common are:
MILSIM or simulation game: here, the teams are modeled after real military or police units and perform tasks in the game that contain a higher level of realism. MILSIM also often includes role-playing elements where players try to put themselves in different roles of the scenario. This is also called LARP or Live Action Role Play.
A free game designed to relax: in this game, the players are usually divided into several groups, which then compete against each other in a scoring system that takes place with the help of occupying flags, territory, or similarly, as in paintball, by the number of hits by opposing players.
Historical illustration is among the younger genres, and is an alternative to illustrating with old weapons, which requires a real or deactivated firearm. In these types of games, players play out various historical scenarios, usually from World War I onwards. Manufacturers of replicas also offer models that imitate weapons from that time in great detail. Illustrations of World War II battles, the Vietnam era, and younger conflicts are also popular.
